We went to Six Flags sunday. We had an absolute blast. It worked out well since we went with Martin, Saskia and Aidan(sp?). We switched around who watched the kids and who got to go on rides.. But Madeline went on some rides herself! You should have seen her face on the kiddie roller coaster! This thing was pretty damn fast for a kids ride, but she just ate it up, giggling and laughing.
Martin and I went on the SuperMan Roller coaster ride. I was impressed but the Cyclone is still my favorite. Especially if you ride the last car since it leaves the track at times.
It was overcast but I think it was to our advantage. The lines weren't any shorter but we didn't have to deal with the sun baking us live. The rain finally let loose when we were leaving the park. Finished the day with some good Pizza from Nicky's Pizza (just down the road from the park). Just make sure you really want alot of pizza if you order their large.
On other news I built the launcher for the water rockets. I will get some pictures up tonight. Its pretty cool. Made out of PVC piping and has a trigger ring to hold onto the rocket until your ready to let it fly. I found plans online to build the launcher and a two stage rocket. The rocket is proving to be a little more difficult to build. I have total confidence that it will be built for next years party! :-) In any event the launcher is great for simple single stage 2 liter bottles too.
Work has been very busy. I'm working on the next version of E-Guest. This is our "kiosk" that is currently being tested at SeaportHotel. The current version works well and is based off linux of course. But its filesystem is mounted read/write so if there is a power failure it could corrupt the filesystem. So the next version uses a readonly filesystem. But for this to work I needed to mount a ram disk since you need to be able to write some things. I have learned alot doing this since I'm basicly rolling my own linux distribution. fdisking the disk, formating, extracting a basic filesystem, building 2.4 kernels, using devfs (virtual /dev directory), /tmp in a ram filesystem, /var pointing to /tmp/var, recompiled dhcpcd to write to /tmp instead of /etc, installed lilo 21 to get around 8 gig disk limitation (scratched my head on that one for a day), Xfree4.0.1 installed with kernel agpgart module to use the i810 graphics chip. Overall alot of hacking!! :-) But when I'm done the system will boot right into netscape and can be powered off at any moment without corrupting anything.
I've rambled on long enough and probably lost most of you during the last paragraph anyway.. :-)
Here are some pics taken at the Childrens Museum when Gil and the gang were visiting.
