Quote of the Day
If I had a mine shaft, I don't think I would just abandon it. There's got to be a better way.

For work I am traveling to Tokyo, Japan.

a bit of back log here since it was such a long trip over. I left my house around 5am on Saturday morning via airport van. My first flight was Logan to Dulles which was cake. Your barely in the air before you start coming down again. Switched terminals there and while eating a muffin noticed they had a money exchange. Got that out of the way Figuring it would be easier to exchange with someone who spoke English.

Now the long flight.. 14+ hours. I started out reading Kevin Smiths "My boring ass life", which is more interesting than mine. sort of slept for a bit and then listened to Harry Potter and the Deathly Howles. Than you Vick for ripping those cd's in.

The japanese style food started on the flight. The food is fine but I always find that food is a comfort and when you are traveling it can be hard if everything is different including the food. :-)

So I arrived in Tokyo and easily went through Customs, picked up my luggage and found the booth to pick up my rented cell phone. I tried calling my counter part who was supposed to have arrived already but I was greeted with a message in Japanese saying his voice mail wasn't setup.

I knew I had to get the train to Shinjuku so I bought my ticket and boarded the train. The train system here is pretty amazing. You can go pretty much anywhere and its very reliable. It was a good thing that I paid attention to my ticket telling me to get in car 4 because after Tokyo the train split and cars 1-6 went to Shinjuku and the others went somewhere else. :-)

Now I was supposed to meet Kevin at Shinjuku train station and he was going to help me find my hotel. Since I couldn't get a hold of Kevin I had to do it on my own. I figured the easiest thing would be to take a taxi the first time and pay attention. a very short ride later I arrived at my hotel, its very close to the station which is great. Kevin called me and we met up later for dinner. I have to say I was dragging pretty bad. Had a few beers and I walked back to my hotel and Kevin headed to his friends.

Walking around in Shinjuku is wild, and this isn't even Tokyo! Big screen TV's on the buildings, lots of lights and tons of people. The girls all wear tall boots with incredibly short mini skirts. God bless em. ;-)

Time for bed. its only 10:30pm but I'm exhausted. I ended up waking up at 1:30 am and took the opportunity to chat with Vick. I saw Vick and the kids watching TV on the web cam, so I telneted into the tivo and popped up a message telling her to log into IM. ;-)

Now that we have both been there we will have to compair expieriences as well as pictures to see how much things have changed over there. When I went, back in 1998, I had just bought my first digital camera. When I view those pictures now it makes me long to return and retake them as they were only 1024 x 768. My cell phone takes better pictures now. Glad to hear that things are going well. Enjoy the rest of your trip and safe return. 金庫リターン
